Annual Juneteenth Celebration
Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, marking the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Celebrating Juneteenth is a profound way to honor our history, recognize the struggles and triumphs of those who came before us, and reaffirm our commitment to equality and justice.
It represents love, unity, and community, as the journey to freedom was a collective effort, supported by countless individuals who fought tirelessly for justice. For our community, Juneteenth is a celebration of unity, resilience, and the enduring spirit of freedom, serving as a reminder of the progress we have made and the work that still lies ahead. It is an opportunity to come together, celebrate our shared heritage, and educate future generations about the importance of freedom and civil rights.
Our Juneteenth celebration will feature a vibrant BBQ-style cookout, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all attendees. In addition to delicious food, we will host educational workshops and a variety of fun activities, including arts and crafts, beading, crafting teas, and making essential oil sprays. Children and families can enjoy engaging scavenger hunts, adding an element of adventure to the day. These activities are designed to bring our community together, fostering a spirit of creativity, learning, and togetherness.
Not only do we offer engaging workshops, crafts, and activities, but our event is also held at our Black-owned farm, emphasizing our commitment to providing environmental justice and food equity. We partner with organizations and local businesses whose mission is to create equity and inclusion for BIPOC and other underrepresented groups. This collaboration enriches our celebration, ensuring it is both meaningful and impactful, and highlights our collective efforts to foster a more inclusive community.
